The#1 Reason we do what we do at ShowCamp…

We believe the arts play an important role in the development of a child. The arts has transformational qualities that feed the spirit with imagination, creativity, and joy. And in the world that is ShowCamp… the arts make children HAPPY!

ShowCamp Is…

  • • An artistic community where dance, music, art, and drama techniques are introduced, developed, and applied into productions.
  • • A service provider to the schools.
  • • A production company.
  • • A place to discover talents, build confidence, and find encouragement and inspiration.

The arts expand our knowledge and contribute to intellectual comprehension. Studies have shown that the arts teach children how to think critically, solve problems, analyze and synthesize information, evaluate and make decisions.

Creativity

Creativity learned through the arts is linked to the processes of scientific discovery, business planning and negotiation. An education in the arts changes the type of teaching from learning focused on the “right” answer to finding many ways to solve a single problem. Students become partners in the learning process.

Communication

The arts help us send and receive messages in a variety of media that are their own form of literacy. The arts use sights, sounds, and movement to convey meaning beyond the power of words. Arts education develops the ability to interpret and understand complex symbols in the same manner as language and mathematics.

The arts are reflective of the feelings of the people who create them. They transcend cultures and ethnicity. The arts provide students with a vehicle to express their background and heritage and to begin to understand others with whom they come in contact. The arts link genders, ages and socio-economic backgrounds. The arts can help students build an understanding of their personal histories while building contributions to their cultural heritage.
